We camped here for one night so we could get away to the cool mountain temperatures for a while. Overall it was a nice place to stay. Most of the sites are pretty narrow and close together, nestled on a hillside. However, most site are at different heights from the ones next to it so that adds a little privacy. Cable was good and WiFi was excellent. Lots of shade trees made it pretty. This is in the middle of a residential neighborhood which is quiet and pleasant. The house across the street does have a cluttered area outside, though. I agree with the previous reviewer that this campground is not within walking distance of shopping as the web site says. It's about a mile. Overall this campground is about trade offs. There are prettier and more spacious sites in the national forest campgrounds around town, but none of them have hookups. This place is a little more cramped but has good hookups, cable, and WiFi, and is just a short driving distance to the main shopping area. We would stay here again.
While only our fourth trip in our trailer, we thoroughly enjoyed this state park. The sites are a stone's throw from each other, but with the shade trees you feel some seclusion when you face away from the road. The park is close enough to town that it's easy to run to the store, etc., but it's nestled far enough into the mountains that it feels like a getaway. Wonderful scenery in the area. Don't miss the view from the top of Skyline Drive at sunset. We saw javelina and deer wandering the sites each evening. Indian Lodge/Black Bear Restaurant in the park was also good...the lodge itself is neat to look around. Also, don't miss exploring nearby Alpine and Marfa.
